Today i was reading up on Isaiah 19 and it reminded me of our previous unit meet where we discussed about suffering and why does God allow suffering.
In the chapter, Isaiah told about the destruction of Egypt, their people will turn to their idols, gods, mediums for answers and refuge but it will not work and will find nothing but despair. Even Pharoah's wise counselors (Egypt was well known of it's wisdom) give senseless advice.
Interestingly, the chapter ends of with the prophecy that Egypt will come to know God.
in Isa 19:22
22 The LORD will strike Egypt with a plague; he will strike them and heal them. They will turn to the LORD, and he will respond to their pleas and heal them.
what got me thinking was "He will strike them and heal them."
God wants us to come back to Him. If there were no sufferings, we wouldn't be able to tell what is pain and not pain, we wouldn't know the meaning of contentment.
Thus in these prophecies of doom and gloom, its a love message to the nations.
"Come back to me my people. For I am the answer. Look to Me, seek Me with all your hearts and I will be found by you"
In times of uncertainty, God calls us to come back.
I compared the prophecy than to the world today.
Especially now when there're disasters everywhere, economic crisis, global warming, swine flu, terrorism, etc
where do we turn for our security?
other people? fortune tellers? feng shui?
there is a inner desire to always want to know what is coming, to be able to predict so we can prepare for it. (eg. geomancers, horoscopes)
even in the area of stocks and trade which i believe is also just as uncertain (people having to monitor it every moment)
and it is times like these that God likes to shake those "hopes" that people have, not to break the people but to show them that their security in that "hope" does not last.
God is saying rest your hopes in Me!
People all over the world are constantly looking for a hope to cling on to.
Lets bring them to God!
in times of trouble, lets shine for God! People will notice us when they see that our security isn't easily shaken.
Let us not forget the great commision that was commissioned to us by our Lord Jesus Christ!
Where do we place our hopes?
in times of trouble who or where do we go to first?
are there anyone (peers, colleagues, friends) who are going through times of uncertainty?
how can we bring them closer to God?
lets Shine for Him in our workplace!
